Decision on magazine layout

I have started on putting colours and gif images on my background for my magazine.

As soon as I did it, I thought it's too messy and it dazzle the eyes, I'm sure as a reader will get tired of it really quick and they won't go back o it. Also I have ask some peers for advice, they all said it's too much for them and the gif is too distracting which they couldn't be able to read the content properly.

To understadn the page layout more, I researched on plenty of different magazines, such as those very famous ones:

No matter how different theme they have, there's a common point, which is clean & tide also very straight forward layout (contents are obvious). Which I believe it makes reader wants to go back to it and normally people read online magazine through their phone so it has to be clean on a smaller screen. In addition, having contents straight away on the home page allows people to use it easily because of the technology issue it saves time.

Eventually I decided to change the layout theme for my website to something tidier and cleaner and I have experimented with my peers to see their experience using the webpage to read.

Black and white as a classic constrast for a magzine and people won't get tired of looking at it easily

The header image I chose is a image of the decaying leaves which I think it links to my theme.
