Comme des Garçons | Spring Summer 2018
Rei Kawakubo, who is 75 years old, is one of the grandest figures in fashion of the last half century and with her label Comme Des Garcons.
You can never guess what Rei Kawakubo is going to do next and what the show is about, just sit down and be prepare. Kawakubo always has some breathtaking garments to show the audience, even though you might be asking yourself what is Kawakubo trying to portray through her masterpieces.
This time, her collection is officially entitled as “multidimensional graffiti” on her substantial garments. At the show, Kawakubo presented 10 artists with 15 outfits, there’s Giuseppe Arcimboldo from the 16th century and some young contemporary artists. Let’s see what the collection is going to be like.
The music dropped, the model came on the stage wearing a tailored coat covered in prints with hallucinogenic still-life of Guisppe Arcimboldo, faces and features made up of fruit and vegetable, which was surrealism on surrealistic garment. What a great coincidence! When you look at the bottom, a pair of green Nike trainers, seems like the model is ready to run away from the show to an alley. The title soon made sense from these mixtures of the outfits.
Then surprisingly as usual, something more present-day and delightful came, A giant dolly face with some Japanese floral prints on a pinky modern kimono. which was the most engaging with Japanese culture piece out of the collection.

Some of the silhouettes and constructions of the garments look a bit more like the previous collections but the different is the hair for sure.

If there was a rating of most eye-catching thing at the show, it must be hairstyle which done by Julien d'Ys. Models were wearing renaissance style wigs and decorated with different kind of
plastic childish toys such as Hello Kitty and Barbie dolls. You can see it might be slightly influenced by the Japanese harajuku street style.
Interestingly, some of them almost look like the vertical reflection of the outfits’ silhouettes and they really brought verve and liveliness to the show.

Although Rei is 75 years old already, she is still one of the most influential fashion figure, who always thinking forefront of most people. Like the older generation’s fashion, aging does not take away their beauty, it’s their attitudes towards fashion. This timeless allure only belongs to them.
I chose Comme des Garcons 2018 as one of my magazine content is because the designer Rei Kawakubo. I think it's suitable, Rei is 75, she is one of the most influential and remarkable figure in the fashion industry. Getting old doesn't make her think old, she's still thinking outside the box and just truly believe in her own thoughts toward fashion and this is the spirits!
